These self-development workshops are offered separarately for men and women. They comprise six fortnightly meetings of 2hrs duration. With an emphasis on mutual support, these groups aim to empower through the development of knowlege, understanding and the practical application of newly learned skills. Typically, topics will include: developing a positive self-concept, managing negative emotions, assertiveness and communication skills, stress and anxiety management, goal-setting and there is flexibility according to the needs of the participants. These workshops are funded by Suffolk single Gateway at NO COST to the individual Freedom Programme: This programme offers support to and addresses the needs of individuals who have sufffered domestic violence. It is currently only available to women participants. This workshop is also offered free of charge. Mindfulness based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) MBCT is a relapse prevention treatment offered to people who have had two or more previous episodes of depression but who are currently not in a depressive episode. MBCT has been recommended by N.I.C.E. as a 'treatment of choice' ; this is the first time it has been made available in this locality. It's an 8 week times 2hr evening workshop requiring a commitment to regular practice between meetings. There is impressive research evidence to show that for people who stick to the program there is a strong possibility of this treatment leading to a breaking of the cyclical nature of depressive episodes. This program is currently self-funding though we are seeking funding to enable us to offer bursaries in cases of financial hardship. This group is for people living with long term physical health problems and the potential difficulties that often accompany this, such as low mood, anxiety, isolation or relationship difficulties. It encompasses the mind-body connection and uses gentle movement, relaxation, writing and creativity to explore self concept and identify possible changes that may assist improved well being.
